Description
1759 Penmanship Sampler, Gold-Filled and Goodyear Pencils, Original Poetry.
An estate group including 3 pencils, a "pen holder" with attached provenance from the owner, and a typed poem by J.G. Bewinghouse along with his hand-drawn birthdate artwork.
The pencils include:
* a Scheaffer with ring top and marked as gold filled, 3.5" long;
* a goldtone unmarked pencil;
* and a dainty pencil with guilloche engraving on the India Rubber barrel, gold filled ends, and marked: GOODYEARS (actually GOGDYEARS) Pat. May 6, ’51.
The penmanship samplers are dated 1759 (Henry Kulp), 1807 (Daniel Bewinghouse), and 1807 (Christian Bewinghouse). They are fragile but also fascinating with Bible verses and other writings.
